Here are our favorite day trips and weekend getaways – perfect for putting your Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, or any vehicle to good use. So pack a cooler, load up the playlist, and let’s ride!

1. Willow City Loop – A Wildflower Wonderland

📍 Distance from Fredericksburg: 13 miles
🕒 Trip time: 1-2 hours roundtrip

This iconic 13- mile scenic drive is north of Fredericksburg and is Texas Hill Country at its finest. Rolling hills, rugged limestone cliffs, and colorful seasonal wildflowers. Sprinkled across the rolling hills in the spring are bluebonnets (Texas State flower), red Indian paintbrushes and blankets, purple verbena and winecups, and white ox-eye daisies. This is one of the most popular drives in the state during the spring.

Pro-Tip: Take your Jeep with the top off for the full experience. Just remember – it is private ranch land, so no wandering off the road.

2. Enchanted Rock State Natural Area – Rock Solid Adventure

📍 Distance: 18 miles north
🕒 Trip time: Half-day

Ready for some fresh air and big views? Head down to Enchanted Rock and hike to the top of this granite dome for breathtaking views of the Hill Country. There are multiple summits to hike giving you different views. If you are not into hikes, there is a loop trail that circles around the base that also gives you amazing views of the rock – the loop trail is about 5 miles. Regardless of the trail you take, make sure you bring water, sunscreen, and a cap or sunglasses. There is not too much shade on the trails, but due to that, you can see out further. Afterwards, circle back to Fredericksburg for a bite to eat and something cold to drink at a local restaurant or brewery. You’ll love the winding Hill Country backroads that lead you there.

3. Luckenbach, Texas – Where “Everybody’s Somebody”

📍 Distance: 13 miles southeast
🕒 Trip time: 1-2 hours or all day if there’s live music

Arvesen, Ralph. [Picker Circle Willow City Loop]. Texas Review, [05/30/21], https://www.texreview.com/2021/05/picker-circle-unpplugged-acoustic-jam.html.

Famous for its laid-back vibe and legendary live music, Luckenbach is a must-see! Cruise over in your Dodge Charger or class Ram truck, grab a cold drink, and tap your toes under the Texas sky. If you’re lucky, you might catch someone riding a longhorn steer down the road, or an impromptu guitar jam under the oak trees. The post office is super cute and worth checking out. There’s plenty of souvenir’s to take back with you to remember your trip, or to send a postcard to someone special!

Pro-Tip: There’s a book in the back bar/restaurant that you sign to let people know you visited, and on the back wall of the building you can sign your name as well. It’s fun to come back years later and find your name.

4. Johnson City and LBJ Ranch – Presidential Views

📍 Distance: 30 miles east
🕒 Trip time: Half to full day

Take a ride through time and visit President Lyndon B Johnson’s boyhood home and Ranch, also known as the Texas White House. With peaceful riverside drives and historic sites scattered throughout, this is a great family-friendly trip. A Chrysler Pacifica is perfect for the ride – spacious, smooth, and packed with comfort.

Pro-Tip: When you go, ask if you can see the car that turns into a boat!

5. Wine Road 290 – Sip and See

📍 Distance: Varies—stretch runs along Highway 290
🕒 Trip time: As long as you like

Home to over 50 wineries, vineyards, and tasting rooms, the 290 Wine Trail offers scenic views and sips to match. Designate a driver (or book a shuttle) to explore the unique wineries. Each one is quite different, but all offer a relaxing and beautiful atmosphere.

6. Devil’s Backbone Scenic Drive

📍 Route: Fredericksburg to Wimberley via Ranch Road 32
🕒 Trip time: Half-day to full day

“[Photograph of Jacob’s Well, Wimberley, Texas].” Ready Set Jet Set, accessed 30 June 2025, https://readysetjetset.net/jacobs-well-wimberley-texas/.

A local favorite, the Devil’s Backbone is a winding ridge road with jaw-dropping view of the valleys, hills, and distant lakes. It’s a scenic route that begs for a Ram truck or Jeep Grand Cherokee – something with muscle for the hills and comfort for the long haul. Make time for a stop in Wimberley for lunch and a dip in the Blue Hole known as “Jacob’s Well,” if it’s warm. The water is crystal clear and has a hole that drops down 35 feet.

Pro Tip: If you’re scared of deep water or heights, there is a shallow area that is knee deep that you can also swim in. The 35 foot hole is normally an area that people take turns jumping into. So if you don’t want to jump, or be in the splash zone, you can walk down to the shallow area.
