National Museum of the Pacific War
This important museum is the only historical site dedicated to the United State’s Pacific campaign during World War II. It first opened in 1968, and since then, the museum has grown to become one of the most famous historical sites in the country. Its campus spans six acres and rightfully so, as the museum expanded over the years seeing new additions to its collection. The George H.W. Bush Gallery opened in 2009 and features a wealth of historical artifacts.
Pioneer Museum
Located in Gillespie County, the Pioneer Museum is managed by the Gillespie Historical Society and is full of historical gems. The museum gives visitors an in-depth look at the first settlers of Fredericksburg, and how they helped shape the town we see today. Tours of the museum will take visitors to a variety of artifacts and old tools used by its citizens back in the day. Guests will also be treated to a delicious and authentic German lunch.
Fort Martin Scott
This important piece of American history found its way onto the National Register of Historic Places. Also referred to as the “Guardian of the Texas Frontier”, this military post was the first-ever along the western border of Texas. It’s located above the shores of Barons Creek, which is just east of Fredericksburg. Visitors are welcome to explore Fort Martin Scott and the surrounding area free of charge! Texas Rangers Heritage Center

The center is located on a 12-acre campus that features a large open-air pavilion that seats 350 people and an amphitheater that seats 150 people. Both of these amenities are used to host several events.
Vereins Kirche
The Vereins Kirche is an important extension of the Pioneer Museum. It serves as a reminder of the bravery Fredericksburg’s settlers displayed, and their vision for the future of the town. The Vereins Kirche had many functions as the town’s first-ever public building. It was used as a school, fort, and even a church for all faiths.
Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park
Although this park is not an actual museum, its strong historic ties to President Lyndon B. Johnson make it a must-see for anyone passionate about American history. The park is home to the LBJ Ranch, where the former president and his wife both lived and died. Visitors can tour the ranch from their vehicles, and visit the place where President Johnson was born, as well as the cemetery where he was laid to rest.
